In the last 100 years the world has witnessed incredible change, from the way we move around to the way we communicate with each other. Some of the systems that are put into effect have proven to not be as effective as we once thought. Changes need to be made.

The United States has the greatest amount of prisoners in the world, 20% of the world prison population to be exact. There are multiple factors that have contributed to this mass incarceration, like the War against crime in 1968 , the war against drugs in 1981, and the 3 strikes you’re out law in 1994. The United States prison population went from 200,000in 1970 to 1,600,000 in 2019, a staggering growth even after violent crime has been on the decline since 1990. Another reason The United States has the greatest amount of prisoners in the world is that more than half of the prisoners are re-incarcerated. The United States also has the greatest re-incarceration rate at 60%. Which lets us know that the efforts we have made to create a rehabilitative environment have not been working. There are existing educational and vocational programs in place which have shown to lower re-incarceration by half, the issue is that about 60% of prisons offer any kind of program and even when they do they are only able to serve 7% of the prison population.

Chance-ss is trying to integrate a new approach to introduce a scalable, quick and cost-efficient design to provide existing prisons with vocational and educational programs to reduce the re-incarceration rate.
